The Rest in East group would take this opportunity to thank all those who took part in the 'Flier' distribution at Windsor Park yesterday. On a bitterly cold day members of the group, together with Meadowvale Entertainments Girl-Band 'soccerettes' Claudia, Karen and Paula, managed to hand out over 3,000 leaflets before the weather closed in and rain sent us all for cover! Feedback from you the Glentoran support was tremendous on the day, it's very heartening to know that so many Glenmen and Women are in support of the campaign, and we would thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read the flier.
After the short festive break, plans are already in motion to re-double efforts early in the New Year, as the battle goes on to secure a future for Glentoran FC in our traditional East Belfast heartland. There is still a long road ahead, but with your help and support we are committed to our long term aim. If you feel you can help in any way please do get in touch at the contact link above, you could all still play a part in the future of your club - all is most definitely not lost ...      together we could just make it happen.
A Very Happy New Year to all.  Le Jeu Avant Tout

Rest in East are producing 5,000 flyers for distribution among Glentoran fans at Windsor Park on Monday 27th December. We realise that not everyone has access to the internet, and we aim to keep as many people up to date with the campaign as we possibly can.

The Rest in East group now have a member on the newly formed East Belfast Community Sports Forum. Representative of ALL sports throughout the East of the city, we feel a place on the new Forum is an opportunity not to be missed, especially when at some time in the near future a 'united' sports voice may prove crucial, if, as has been mooted the Glens consider any possible deal with Belfast City Council.

Yesterday morning saw representatives of Rest in East given the opportunity to address the 'Inner East Forum'. With upwards of 15 local Church, Charity and Community groups in attendance, it proved an ideal opportunity to gauge the feeling among the general public and residents of the area not necessarily interested in football and Glentoran FC in particular. It was certainly heartening and very reassuring to hear some of their words of support, expressing grave concern at the thought of East Belfast losing Glentoran Football Club, whom they considered such an integral part of their community for so many years. We have been promised their support and appreciate the offer to attend the forum again in the near future.

Monday afternoon saw the first stage of the groups taking the campaign to the airwaves, as BBC
Radio Ulster invited Rest in East along to put our case on 'Talk Back' with David Dunseith.
Although constraints mean't that Sam Robinson was only given a few minutes 'live' on air, it
proved a very worthwhile venture in highlighting our plight even more in the public domain. We even had the pleasure of Jim Rodgers on air backing the call for the Glens to remain in the East.
Just in closing, while we were at BBC we happened upon Tim McGarry (Give My Head Peace). After a good aul chat Tim gave us his contact details, assured us of his support, and promised to help Rest in East in any way he possibly can.   My Goodness, if you can convince Da to support the Glens cause ...  !
Be assured we'll be giving him a bell.

Friday morning saw the group meet with Lord Laird of Artigarvan. Not having been to the Oval since 1968, we were delighted to be able to show the Lord around the Oval grounds. MORE HERE
An afternoon appointment then at the City Planning Office, and yet more maps of East Belfast.
Today then saw the Rest in East group meet 'en bloc' for the 8th time since formation 8 weeks ago, amongst other things disgussed was the strategy to move the campaign forward, and a progress report from each of the individuals involved.

The group have now met with Belfast Deputy Lord Mayor Joe O'Donnell (SF). Mr O'Donnell has pledged his full support of Glentoran FC being re-located in it's traditional heartland of 'Inner' East Belfast, adding that in his opinion anything other would be 'absolutely disastrous' for the club. He believed (as do we) that the quest has cross-party support in Belfast City Council.
